The Summer Associate Internship. The Lazard Middle Market summer associate internship is a focused 10-week program for MBA students between their first and second year of business school.

Responsibilities. The summer associate serves as a member of the “deal team,” working directly with managing directors, directors, vice presidents and analysts on a variety of client matters, primarily mergers and acquisitions. The summer associate will gain in-depth transaction experience, significant responsibility, client exposure, negotiation skills, and an understanding of transaction structures. In most assignments, the associate will participate in the following:

Preparation of and participation in new business presentations
Business research
Valuation analysis and financial modeling
Preparation of Confidential Offering Memorandum
Development of potential buyer lists
Preparation of management presentations
Interaction with clients
Interaction with potential buyers
Development, training and mentoring of analysts

Summer associates will receive an excellent introduction to LMM’s full-time associate position. In cases of demonstrated performance and potential, LMM may extend employment offers for its associate position.

Qualifications. Qualified candidates typically possess a combination of the following attributes:

Strong undergraduate and graduate academic performance (3.5 GPA or better)
MBA or equivalent graduate school degree in progress
Merger and acquisition experience
Background in investment banking, public accounting, or finance
Strong writing skills, as evidenced by writing samples
Ability to work a demanding schedule
Highly motivated, with a strong desire to be the “best of the best”
